IV and CV Measurement Control

Before you run IV and CV characterization tests for IGBT and FET devices, you must do some setup and configuration.

Install the B1506A Environment Variables

If your system includes the B1506A power analyzer, you must install environment variables on your PC before running the IV and CV characterization tests. (You need to do this only once.) Refer to the PD1000A Startup Guide for detailed instructions on installing the files.

Set Up the Output Directory

Click Settings in the upper left corner of the display window, then select Global Settings. Enter the complete file path for where you want to save the measured data. For example:

Debug Mode:

Check this box to cause the system to send a SCPI SYST:ERR? command after each command to identify any errors in the system measurements. Use the IO Monitor utility in the IO Libraries Suite to monitor communication between the host PC and the DPT system test instruments and to view the error messages.

Output Directory

This field displays the current directory to store the: IV and CV, Double-Pulse Test, OnState S-Parameter, or Off-State S-Parameter test data. This folder is common to all tests.

IMPORTANT: You must provide this folder and path to the PEMG software for device modeling.

File Structure Information

See Output File Structure for details on the output directory format.

Load Settings From File

Opens a Windows Explorer dialog to the folder specified in Global Settings > Output Directory. This allows you to reload saved DPT test settings into the Control Software.

Save Settings to File

Opens a Windows Explorer dialog to the folder specified in Global Settings > Output Directory. Settings files are saved as .kts files.

Show Log

Show Log provides a Control Software logging feature useful in debugging

Control Software issues.

About

Displays a screen showing the Control Software version.

Next Steps

There are three main steps to running the IV and CV Characterization Tests for IGBT and Power FET devices:

Step 1. Hardware Configuration for IV and CV Measurement Control

Step 2. IV and CV Configure Tests and Test Settings

        IGBT Tests and Parameters

        FET Tests and Parameters

Step 3. IV and CV Run the test

For specified accuracy, always allow the test instruments to warm up for a minimum of one hour before testing.
